User rights and roles
User interface inconsistencies
Even if you have set your language to English in Stud.IP, you will still encounter German phrases in some parts of the user interface. Please be aware that lecturer, dozent and leitung are sometimes used interchangeably in the user interface.
User roles
Title | Typical users | Comment |
---|---|---|
Autor | Students | All users have this user role to begin with. |
Tutor | Tutors | People with Dozent level access can request Tutor level access rights to be given to nominated Stud.IP users. This is achieved in the Tools > Dozentrechte area. Users cannot request this level of access for themselves. |
Dozent | Lecturers, staff of academic chairs, student helpers, and others who need to manage courses. | People with Dozent level access can request Dozent level access rights to be given to nominated Stud.IP users. This is achieved in the Tools > Dozentrechte area. Users cannot request this level of access for themselves. |
What access rights are associated with the user roles?

User access rights increase with each role. Someone with Dozent level access also has all the rights associated with Autor level access.
User access rights within a Stud.IP course
Lecturers and those who have dozent level access to a specific course can allocate roles to the participants of that course. This is done in the Participants section of the course.
Participant type | User access rights |
---|---|
Preliminary participant | None (until confirmed as participant by a user with dozent level access). |
Reader | Read-only access to course content |
Member | Autor / student access: these users can create content and delete their own contributions. |
Tutors | These users can delete content that was produced by others. |
Dozent / Leitung / Lecturer | Course administration: these users can add members / participants, change user roles of each participant, and create new courses. |
People with dozent access can remove participants from their courses. However, users can re-register for the courses unless some restrictions were implemented in the access permissions settings of the course.
